The Alderwood Teddy Bares annually host the longest running swim meet in Ontario and the only short course yards meet in the province. Races are 10 percent shorter than at other meets and at least 33% more exciting! Lots of chances to set Ontario records, lots of great food, and we have a new bell to announce our bell prize heats!
This year was the 1st for the newly rebranded 2023 Ted Roach Memorial annual swim meet, held on Sunday, January 29th. Click here for the 2023 meet results (pdf). The meet hosted 111 swimmers including 2 Australian participants. Another 23 swimmers from Alderwood swam in our own mini-meet immediately after the main event had wrapped up.
There were 51 Ontario Records broken or established, with Chris Smith (age 91) establishing 10 of them (including one in a relay). Chris swam the 500 Free, establishing records for the 50 Free, 100 Free and 200 Free along the way. He then broke his own 50 Free record when he swam the 50 later in the meet. So, I guess you could say he actually broke or established 11 Ontario Records on Sunday.
